"Wave if you can't stop in."

Driving backroads to Deadwood, Oregon, I chanced upon this handwritten sign outside a country store. Charmed, I stepped on the brakes, jumped out of the rented Volvo and walked inside to look around. The proprietor asked, when I failed to purchase, "What should I stock so you will have what you need the next time you visit?"

Here's a business where customers are viewed as both friends and participants. When I head back to the airport, I'll take the same road, stop in for something and also suggest that he carry eggs, better pasta sauce and decent cheese.
